Saturday Night, by Archibald J. Motley Jr

This image is about black musicians and dancers enjoying their time in this club located in Harlem, New York. There was a period of time where it was prohibited to drink alcohol. The Whites heard about this club and they came to take a sip of some alcohol and take their time observing these magnificent, talented dancers and and musicians. African American usually perform swing dancing, which is a traditional dance passed on to Blacks. The whites was amazed how well they did it.

This image is reflected on Negro Heritage and History because the image tell us about how great their dance is and is created by them. You need to be really skilled in order to portray the incredible effect within Swing.

I chose this image because it really stands out to me. I like how there's a lot of texture the artist had made because it gives you a kind of feeling where they're really relax and comfortable.

  1. I really LOVE! your background, and not just because it's blue. I think that your design is very creative and i'm surprised at this photo that you chose because I actually almost used this photo as well. I agree with you in that the people in the painting do seem really relaxed and comfortable. I liked your photo but i think you should talk a little about what HR themes are present in your photo. Good Job!
