Jacob Lawrence: The Library

Not like other subjects, Black Culture has not been taken seriously in High School. In High School, Black Culture studies wasn't important enough comparing to the main subjects that were taught in school. Jacob Laurence went to the library and taught himself about Black Cultures by reading books and searching on information about it.

The HR themes that this image has is Negro Heritage and History because it emphasizes how they are reading to discipline themselves to learn the History of their ancestors. The history of Blacks is not commonly taught in schools, so they really want to know more about their culture.

I chose this image because the background of this image has a lot of contrast and it's really colorful and dim. The color he uses is dark and it express the feeling that he tries to portray. These colors gives you the feeling in which they are focus and really wants to know more about their culture background. There's a mysterious tone, which tells you that there's some mytery going on with their cultures and they are now reading and searching informations about it.
